Speaker system is an electromechanical transducer that converts an electrical signal into sound. Speaker systems are commonly called loudspeakers. Speaker systems are the most variable elements in any audio system, and are responsible for marked audible differences between otherwise identical sound systems.

The interaction of a speaker system with its environment is complex and is largely out of the control of the designer of the speaker. Most listening rooms present a more or less reflective environment, depending on size, shape, volume, and furnishings. This means the sound reaching a listener consists not only of sound directly from the speaker system, but also of that same sound delayed by traveling to and from one or more surfaces. These reflected sound waves, when added to the direct sound, cause cancellation and addition at assorted frequencies, changing the timbre and character of the signal being reproduced.

A significant factor in the sound of a speaker system is the amount of absorption and diffusion present in the environment. An overabundance of absorption at high frequencies can be caused by large areas of absorptive materials and can cause a speaker system to sound deficient at higher frequencies, and likewise minimal absorption can cause an otherwise adequate speakers to sound too bright or sibilant at those frequencies.

Different types of speaker systems
There are many types of speaker systems for different applications. A speaker system having a large sound output is used in a concert hall, while a compact speaker system is used in a television receiver. A bass reflection type speaker system is popular as one, which is small but is able to radiate powerful low tones.

These systems are often provided with speaker components specifically adapted for operating at different frequency ranges, including low range, mid range and high range. There are car speakers, stereo speakers, surround speakers, and speaker products for home theater systems. The wireless speakers are becoming very popular for home speakers. It enables to have a speaker system in every room of the house.

Computer speakers are also a very popular consumer item. A car speaker often includes a subwoofer for fabulous sound on the road. Audio speakers for the cars are specially designed for the unique characteristics of a car interior, and so are different from audio speakers that are used in the house. Audio speakers for the home should be able to reproduce the full frequency range without distortion. A good quality speaker system can enhance the enjoyment; so buying the best quality speaker products is a good investment.

Conclusion
In the audio reproduction technology, particularly the hi fi reproduction technology, one of the objects is to reproduce an original sound field with a high fidelity. In the past, numerous monophonic and stereophonic sound systems have been developed in an attempt to achieve high fidelity sound reproduction. With the advent of the home theater systems and with the high definition television rapidly becoming a commercially viable technology, these systems must be available for the home audiophiles that are suitable for such high fidelity use.

Current progress of technology in the field of audio visual systems has given rise to a demand for a system, which would enable one to enjoy images projected on a large screen with full powerful sound.
