I have to assume that you are installing a new sink as an old one would already have a drain. In a basement situation the main drain lines are only very rarely only in the ceiling. Usually they are under the floor or about midway up the wall because they have to exit the building below grade. Therefore I assume that you are talking about the nearest visible drain line when you see the one overhead. (Or you could in fact be seeing a vent line and not a drain.) Water drains down hill. To go up you have to pump it. There are laundry and slop sink kits that are available at the big stores. They include a pump and show how the piping is to be managed. Installation will also require an electrical outlet.
A usual approach is to find a drain that is somewhere downhill. In a basement this sometimes means breaking the floor or finding a pipe that is going into the below floor drains. This has the advantage of avoiding a problem if the pump fails or clogs.
Please take a moment to be sure of what you are doing before you start cutting into existing piping that you may not understand. Try not to make assumptions.
about the only way to get the waste water up is to pump it. To do that you should Create a drain pit that the sink can flow into. Then put a sump pump in there and pump it up. You defiantly want to put a check valve at the highest point so the piping in the building does not flush back.
