She wants to get me a baby rat from the petstore in the mall. I have been in there a hundred times and they take care of their animals. I'm just wondering if there's a chance that she might pick out the wrong one and it might be skittish untrainable or aggresive. What would I do then?
go with her to the petstore and look for one with wide eyes and is not to fat and not to skinny and nice and active.
well just to be safe ask her not to get the mouse or rat. just ask her for some money instead for the rat or mouse. so know u can choose and your friend knows that she helped buy the rat. or u both can go to the petstore and pick one out while ur friend pays for it. if you like rats then let her get you one but if you dont want them just tell her or give her little hints

Make an agreement with her that she can buy you the rat, but you have to go with her and pick out the rat yourself. A pet should never be a surprise because they have feelings and don't deserve to be dumped on people who don't want or can't have them. You have to observe the rats and see which one has a personality that best suits you.
Well, if you're not exactly sure about her getting you a rat that you might not like, ask her if it would be O.K. if you went with her to get the rat. Tell her really why you thought you need to do it and just hope she understands.
i think when getting pets, always check with the owner/owners parents because ultimately,,,the parents are the ones who buy the supplies etc. so i truly think it is inappropriate to buy lifelong pets for someone! but thats totally just my opinion. and if your too worried, then just tell her you would rather have the new game for nintendo ds (idk!) so happy birthday and good luck with your rats!

Well first of all, you need to get 2 or else dont bother getting them. They absolutely need a companion to live properly without depression.
Make sure you having everything you need and set up before you get them. Ask your friend if she can handle them before she picks them out to make sure they are friendly. Most rats are and love to be handled.
Tell her you want to pick it out with her. Otherwise return it and be like no offense. Just tell the truth though.
Why don't you ask her if you could go with her that way you could pick out the rat that you like.
Rats are very aggressive animals in nature. Your friend should get you a hamster or a mouse. A Guinea pig perhaps? If the rat does turn out to be what you didn't expect then I doubt they'll take it back and if they do then they will probably not even reimburse you. So what's the point of the gift?
first check out the rats there and see if any of them are "wrong" if they are drop hints on which you like best to her if she not getting it then tell her to get the good one

I had two rats when I was younger and both of them were very good pets, but you're right, like any animal there are going to be ones that aren't going to be as good as a pet. That said: I didn't pick either of mine.

It sounds to me like your friend want's a rat, It isn't her birthday. You are the one who should pick your birthday present, not your friend.

well i have a hamster she is so cute ok i think that a rat can be a good pet if it is clean and dont have anything but i think your friend should give you a hamster if she wants to buy you a little pet like that rats can bite but if you take care of your for your birthday than your pet will trust you but thats a good gift
