  • Alaska Mileage Plan v/s NWA WorldPerks - FlyerTalk Forums::

    hi!!

i am a NW worldperks member and with the latest travel, should make elite and end up with abt 90,000 miles in the account. i am likely to relocate to india from the US and as per worldperks rules, if my mailing address is in india/europe, i will have to move to klm royal dutchman..

does it make sense to move my ff prog to klm (basically, changing my mailing address to one in india, as opposed to leaving one in the US) ? klm seems to be rather secretive abt sharing info abt award levels etc with non-members. no info available generally on the site either.

and then, would my elite status transfer as well ?

  • And don't trade your NW miles for KL points. The exchange rate is grim.

You will still be able to get NW credit for hotels, car hire etc.

Of course, this would mean starting afresh with KL, something you may or may not want to do.

If you can keep a US mailing address and stay with NW, that could be the better deal.

  • Maybe you shouldnt indeed change your address, the case I know about involved an address change! I would be interested to find a safe way to avoid the terrible FD program while in Europe, Africa or India.

  • Could you please explain why you did not get miles when US mailing address and residing in europe? I am in the same situation but have been told as long as you have a US mailing address no problem staying in WP and getting miles on any Kl flight.

  • IaLTO,

You have to be careful about a few aspects of your address change; If you travel on NW departing from India and your schedule proves that you reside in India, they will not credit your miles (first hand experience with residing in Europe and staying in WP).
So you need to find a place close to India that is WP area. Any place from Birma (Myanmar) to the east is WP land, and WP Asia is really the best.

So find a way to have a mailing address in any place like HKG, BKK or SIN and you will be safe, KL-NW dont fly from Asia to India so you can always claim that you have friends in India and that you are connecting flights.

Try to avoid FD as much as possible untill they become realistic about the standards in FFP's.

    BTW
Can anyone explain what this Royal Wing lounge is for? If BC class travellers are not welcome there and KL doenst offer any 1st calss service, that means you will only find KL FD members there! Another discrimination of WP members. (I would also like to take a shower)

  • I completely agree with Goldlust. No elite mileage bonus is enough of a reason not to switch.

If you do want to a KLM brochure on the FD program, you have to sent in a letter (or fax) to the following address:

As a non-member in order to receive a program
brochure we kindly ask you to request one from our correspondence
department via fax or post on the following address or fax number.

We would like to inform you that the address of the FD Helpdesk is:

    KLM Flying Dutchman Helpdesk (SPL/MT)
    P.O. Box 12192
    1100 AD Amsterdam Zuidoost
    (The Netherlands)

    (Fax (+31) (0)20 6090545)

  • IaLTO,

Here's what I did. I used to be with KLM FD while I was still living in Holland. After I moved to the US I immediately opened a WP account and had my FD miles transferred over to my WP which you can do by sending a fax to the DF Helpdesk mentioning that you moved and your new WP number.

They transferred my FD miles at a favorable exchange rate and now I'm Silver Elite. THe good thing is that I still earn miles on discounted tickets flying KLM.

I think everybody pretty much agrees that NW WorldPerks is a lot better than KLM Flying Dutchman.

How can your schedule "prove" that you are residing in any single place? While keeping my USA (MD, then NJ) address, I have had round trips to/from Europe originate at IAD, DCA, STR, FRA, DUS and YUL. All miles/flights posted without any problems, and I'd be most curious to see NW try to tell me where I am residing based on such patterns.

What did they do to you? <g> I'd be most interested in your experience on this one.

  • Gosh, we all know KL s***s!!! They treat people poorly, especially NW customers. I think the more status you have with NW the worse they treat you. If I'm going anywhere that takes me out of NW range, I'll use another carrier, *A, etc., to get me to AMS or a point to catch NW metal.

I sure hated missing the live talk with the NW guy because I was not able to see if they posed my question about what is being done to have KL treat WP'ers with some common courtesy. If they did pose the question, can anybody tell me what his response was?
