  • How do i sync contacts in a Public folder in Outlook to the contacts fodler in my personal folder? i use a laptop for my desk at work asd well aswhen i travel. for example, when i'm traveling i input new contacts and also bring back new business cards to be input by my assistant. i have my assistant input the new contacts into the contacts fodler in the public folder so that everyone else in the office can access the contact. i don't know how to sync these 2 fodlers. please help, i need detailed instructions as i am not very computer savy. to clarify: how do i keep my contacts in my personal folder in sync with the office contacts in the public folder? is there a utility or macro that will do this?

  • Dear jacksoncoker-ga, Outlook itself, as you've probably found out, doesn't provide any built-in means to do this; and unfortunately, most of the utilities which I have located to synchronise contacts between public and private Contacts folders will do it only in one direction, which would only handle half of your problem. This said, I have located one utility which claims to be able to synchronise Contacts both ways: "QSync for Outlook: Copies items between Outlook folders. Can be used to synchronize folders between PST files on two different machines, copy calendar entries to a public folder, or back up data to another PST file." - http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/sync.htm You can obtain QSync from: http://www.outlookfolders.biz/Lang/English/QSync/qsync1.htm By selecting the public folder as the target folder for synchronisation to/from your private Contacts folder, and selecting synchronisation both "to target" and "from target", you should achieve the results you want. You may also want to select automatic synchronisation (to avoid having to manually select "Tools/Synchronize" to update the two folders) and also "Synchronise deleted objects". If this solution doesn't work well for you, another possibility would be a two-part solution - you could use one of the other utilities listed on that page (http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/sync.htm) to synchronise your contacts into the public folder for the rest of the office to share, and meanwhile grant your assistant the ability to enter contacts directly into your personal Contacts folder using the "Permissions" page in its properties, which they could then access using "File"/"Open"/"Other User's Folder..." If this answer isn't quite what you're looking for, or if you need more detailed instructions, please feel free to request a clarification. cerebrate-ga Search strategy: Google Microsoft search, "sync Outlook folders" - ://www.google.com/microsoft?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=sync+Outlook+folders
