Hello,
I am the new guy to the forum. Thank you all for the interesting information. I have an interesting question for the group - I have found it extremely expensive to fly from San Diego to Seattle (it's cheaper to fly from San Diego to Florida...) no matter which airline you choose. My question is, what would be the most cost effective string of trips to go from SAN to SEA from a Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon? Can anyone string me a great deal? Thank you for your help!
check out farecompare (http://www.farecompare.com/search/year.html?departure=SAN&destination=SEA) for a range of fares. I have always wondered the same. What comes to mind is the lack of LCC (Low Cost Carrier) on this route. I believe Alaska Airlines is the only one operating nonstops and they have no competition at all.
Airline economics is the weirdest in US. I recently went on SAN-JFK-SAN for $185 while going to DEN is double than this.
It's just a matter of timing. I head to SD about 2-4 times per year. Most recently the r/t was <200 total... but I've paid up to 400. These are all coach tickets (though now I get upgraded on AS) and purchased well in advance, on AS, UA, and WN. I consider anything under 200 to anywhere in CA (from sea) to be a good deal, 2-300 to be about average, and >300 is bad news. Best I've found baring mistake fares was 140 r/t to SBP. I'd say that of the sea-san pair, seattle is the cause of the higher prices more so than san.
Next trip planned (early nov) is coming up with ~240 r/t and I shall book once I know how tight my turn around is going to be ... probably back into sea in the afternoon and out again on a redeye.
WN has one stop service SEA-SAN and LAX, ONT, BUR, and SNA for that matter. Alaska matches WN's sales all the time, so there is a LCC present and working. SAN is getting like SNA where the airlines are filling thier seats with higher fares, no need to have sales. There should be a fall sale coming up soon.
Please tell us your max amount so that we can respond with some intelligence.l
Welcome to FlyerTalk, Low ERA! :)
Unfortunately, fare assistance for specific itineraries is not allowed in the mileage run forum & there's no real outlet for this kind of assistance on FlyerTalk. Please be sure to read the sticky (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=454485) outlining the forum's purpose.
As Mrp Alert pointed out, Farecompare.com may be a good resource for you.
In the meantime, I'm closing this thread.
