My partner and I are off to HNL on Wednesday (part of that crazy fare sale to Hawaii back in January). We are currently scheduled to fly ORD-STL-HNL using VIPOWs and we are confirmed in F. My partner cashed in 10K (5 a piece) for interisland flights HNL-OGG. The only challenge is he booked a flight that gives us a whole 18 minutes to change planes - and I know that just plain ain't gonna happen! I have back-up tickets purchased on AQ but that would man an almost 3 hour layover in HNL. So, here's my question.........

How likely are the chances that an agent at the EXP line at O'Hare would move us over to the nonstop or route us on the early morning ORD-DFW-HNL *IF* there is space and would they upgrade us using the VIPOW's? AA has changed flights for me before on day of and most of the time have honored the upgrade request.....just curious as to what others have experienced.

    Thanks

  • Even if it's longer.... the HNL-STL uses 'old' TW aircraft and they seem to have better seating (actual legrests) and larger pitch than AA's 767s!

  • STL-HNL has gads more room than ORD-HNL. I think you're better off taking the next HNL-OGG flight, which shouldn't be more than 60-90 minutes after your present flight. Aloha Airines may also be willing to accept your HA tickets if they have room on their flight.

  • I don't know how likely you are to be switched to the OGG flight and keep your upgrade, but I know that HA is not too fussy about accomodating passengers on different flights than they have booked. If you can't change your AA segments and end up getting to HNL too late, just go to the interisland terminal and see if they'll put you on a later HA flight to OGG. Unless they're completely sold out (and that hasn't happened too often lately), they should be able to accomodate you. Better yet, call AA and see if there's a later HA flight available for award travel, and have your HA award tix changed to the later flight.

I think there's 2 different kind of seats on those HNL runs, but both have the large pitch and footrests which make them much nicer than any 757 I've ever sat in.
