Why do Most Americans...well perhaps not most...but a lot of Americans think that there is no life outside of America, It is hard to explain what I mean but when I went to American some of the people I met were very Ignorant some thought we used the "English Dollar", They always criticised the way English people do things, What we call things and to me it felt like Americans don't have much of the modern world taught to them unless it concerns America ! WHY IS THIS !?!? Why do Americans think that America is the ONLY country in the world that matters ?
that's because we're brought up that way. we are taught that america is the most powerful country & blah blah blah. it's left up to the individual to explore other places & people to realize that america isn't necessarily more powerful or better than another country.
Although I don't believe this question belongs here (note what section you are in) here is my answer.
Americans have grown up hearing they are the best, the brightest, etc. So it is rather difficult for them to give any credit to other countries for anything.
So the next time some American tells you how great they are you can say, "yep sure are, look at where you've taken the whole world with the credit crunch."
A lot of Americans are oblivious to anything else around them and don't care enough to learn about other countries. We are taught to think that this is the most important, most powerful country on the face of the earth so why bother learning about anything/anywhere else. In reality, many countries overseas are more advanced than we are in different ways and every country has something wonderful to offer but a lot of people just don't care.
what else do you expect from a coutry thats powerfull beyond belief but hasnt got the brains to hit the enemy instead of eachother
I don't know if Americans really think we're the only country in the world, but Americans do tend to be self centered and a little ignorant at times. I'm an American and I see ignorance everyday.
Why do you think America is a country? That's what I'd like to know.
First, do not listen to any of the answers posted here. As an American military officer who spent a lot of time overseas (more than 10 years) I can answer this question.
Second, Americanâ ™s greatest asset is that fact that we are surrounded by two great bodies of water. It is also our greatest weakness, since the only other culture we visit on holidays are other Americans. Where as in Europe, Asia, Africa and even the Middle East that same short trip can take you into several different nations and cultures.
Third, we are very young nations, almost like a Teenager compared to an Adult, we are brazen, loud, and we are the most powerful nation on the planet. We have faults just like every other nation, but think about this, when something happens, like an earthquake or a conflict, who does the world turn to, the USA. Obama would ask his AG to "immediately review" potential of crimes :: Apr 14, 2008 Tonight I had an opportunity to ask Barack Obama a question that is on the minds of many Americans, yet rarely rises to the surface in the http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/attytood/Barack_on_torture.htmlHOME | Gay Group Calls Obama Invocation Pick A "Genuine Blow" - Marc Ambinder:: Dec 17, 2008 Warren and others support basic legislative protections for LGBT Americans can we believe their claim that they are not four-square against http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/12/gay_group_calls_warren_choice.phpHOME |
Lastly, Americanâ ™s pride themselves on one basic concept, We may not agree with each other on who should be president or who has the best football team, but if you mess with one of us you get all of us. Man, talk about stereotypes. Where do you get your information? Off the television perhaps?

Oops, I see Johnny's got there before me...
So many thumbs-down...they really don't like this video, do they?... or being reminded of the fact that they couldn't beat a bunch of Vietnamese peasants in pyjamas.
That's interesting because just about everything you mentioned comes our way from you all. We are criticised about everything we do by Europeans. Just look at the questions from your fellow Brits. Is it that you all don't know very much about the world outside your countries? We also hear a lot of sterotyping which makes me think you don't know nearly as much as you think you do. As for Americans thinking that America is the ONLY country in the world that matters you have to realize anywhere someone lives their home is going to be important to them. By no means does that exclude other countries. What you don't understand is that it is very cheap for Europeans to visit each other due to the distance. We are a long ways from you and it is very expensive to visit. If you personally have had the privilage of visiting other countries then count yourself fortunate and don't look down on others who may not have the money.
I don't know if its most Americans, but there are in fact a lot of Americans that do not think of the international community often.
It's true that we are not taught much about other countries. I know more than most. Mainly because I have always had a fascination with Europe. I kinda rejected American life when I was a kid. It was my way of rebellion.
It's good that you pointed out this. Without knowledge sharing about each others countries and cultures, we will never be able to come together as one people.
I am always willing to listen and learn - as long as you are willing to educate.
Haha they do get a bit arrogant at times, and it's a fact that Americans travel abroad a lot less than Europeans, and that they often refer to ENGLAND when the mean UK.
But Brits can be arrogant too. Look at our inability to speak foreign languages, whereas most Europeans are far better than us.
Ignorance!
are they L,G,B or T all the time? :s
America gives more then any nation one Earth with regards to food medicine and financial aid so rethink your European elitist BS about America. P.S, If Europe ever gets itself into another world war they can all go to hell I wouldn't fight for you people if I was paid for it. If any one thinks they are better it's Europeans with their constant attack on America and always this jealous need to compare itself to America and no other nation. Take your self righteous European *** out of here.
Because the world revolves around the U.S.
Mainly because they mostly learn American History in schools and not a lot of any other countries history. Plus, a lot of American History is bullshit for instance they teach them they were in the WW2 from the start when really they joined a lot later.
because they are a powerful nation and don't really need to think about other countries or be informed about them .. kinda like if you're a billionaire, you don't really need to know what the cheapest deals around are ... you can just ignore them and boast about your billions
well i had bad experience with english ppl btw im from the us. and they were rude...u cant let just a few ppl u met here let u think that we are ignorant cuz not everyone is... stop judging. every person is different. all countries have nice ppl and mean ppl and ignorant ppl and wealthy ppl and poor ppl.
about the critisising names etc..we do that to them too. about the ignorance it's because they're not taught Geography properly. A number of Americans think America IS the world. They think England is just another state or something.
