I seem to be in disagreement with AA Customer service on the following issue and want to see if anyone else has had this problem:
I requalified for Gold status in August. I also completed another 10,000 flight miles. My thought was that I would receive 4 upgrade for the 10,000 flight miles and 4 upgrades for requalifying for Gold.

According to Customer service, they are no longer awarding 4 upgrades for achieving gold /plat status. Has anyone else found this to be true?

The "infinite Gold" status is "relatively" easy to obtain. Self employed people who put everything on their visa card, Platinum people who get double miles, etc. can get to AA's million mile status much fast than the United million mile status. I can see why AA MAY want to change the rules at some point in the future. Hopefully Continental won't be doing that to their infinite elite program.

Matt -- I confirmed with AA Customer Service that it is "Program Miles to Date" not actual flight miles. Jeff -- is this is wrong, let us know.
FYI -- I spoke with a friend at AA Customer Service and he told me that the gratis upgrades for achieving Gold/Plat were eliminated since "22% of comp upgrades were for this situation with the other 78% from the 10,000 mile threshhold bonus. Total lost revenue from comp stickers is $38 million." Therefor they are eliminating the comp upgrades for achieving gold/plat status.

I have not received any upgrades when hitting gold or Platinum (though they did send two great upgrade coupons when I hit the one million mile mark). Supposedly you also get some upgrades when hitting Executive Platinum status (you have a ways to go for that one).

Yes, the miles for lifetime gold (at this point) can come from any source. Less than half the million miles in my account came from actual miles.
United requires actual miles for their lifetime status, but you also get Platinum-type status for the rest of your life.

I was curious about the 1 million mile mark -- what do they do for you -- I know its lifetime gold. What other perks am I striving for?

Jeff - I am anxious/nervous that even so-called life-time status privileges (UA) may change in the (may be not so far) future. They will (hopefully) not disappear but have some "addaptions".

I received two domestic round trip upgrade coupons, a card that said 1 million miles, and (when I drop back to gold or below) lifetime gold level. The lifetime status of UA is much better (Premier Executive for life) though it is much much harder to get (1 million actual miles).
Just to clarify, but passing the 1-million-miles-in-the-program mark does not make you "gold for life" - it makes you "gold for as long as we have a gold program" - a subtle but potentially important distinction. Passing the 2 million mile mark doesn't get you anything except (another) couple of upgrade certificates .... and you get four of those when you make executive platinum.
