I just noticed Bank of America offers both the US Airways check card and America West check card. They both have the same fee and earn the same miles per dollar. The only difference is the America West card gives you 1,000 bonus miles each year and 2,500 miles for your first purchase while US has no bonus's. With the merger and all if I opened a Flight Fund account just to earn the extra bonus miles would the 2 accounts merge and the check card miles eventually just get deposited into the new merged account? Any suggestions are appreciated!
the milage programs are set to merge next year. since the credit card miles are deposited to your frequent flyer number the miles form either a US Air card or America West card should combine together. The bigger issue may be what happens when the programs merge. I'm not sure what reward number they'll keep. Also, that America West card will be replaced once they actually really move to a single name and stop having dual operations like they do now.
I would just get the HP card that gives you better points now and then ask B of A to switch to the other program once the milage programs merge. I wouldn't think you;d need to requalify and get a ding to your credit report since you're with the same bank that issued the card.
I got the FlightFund card too. 1,500 more miles. They haven't posted of course. And all B of A tells me is I need to call HP about it.
